The French and Indian War Encampment at is one of the largest living history re-enactments of that period in the world. The event kicks off on Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5 and involves hundreds of re-enactors and volunteers who offer an authentic and dynamic experience of actual events that occurred at Old Fort Niagara in 1759. The event features a large-scale battle re-enactment at 2:00 p.m. each day, expansive living history camps, lacrosse and cricket games, period music, hands-on activities for children and dozens of 18th century artisans and merchants. So how does this tie in with Independence Day? Some of the outcomes of the French and Indian War were what fueled the colonists to fight for our freedom two decades later. What you need to know before you go: Activities begin at 10 a.m. and daily admission is $13 per person. Wear sneakers and don't forget your camera. Bring a picnic lunch and dine outdoors at Fort Niagara State Park, then relax and enjoy a picturesque sunset over Lake Ontario.
Nestled cozily on the shores of Lake Ontario, visit Newfane and Olcott Beach. Experience the history, shop at the quaint village shops and dine at one of the delicious eateries. Don't miss the fireworks, best viewed from the Lake Ontario Shoreline, Krull Park and Olcott beginning at 10 p.m.
