Your Other Holiday To-Do List

Take a break from all of the hustle and bustle - yes, the shopping can wait for now - and remember the holidays are all about being with the ones you love and creating memories, so check some of these Niagara County holiday festivities off your list!

  • Children will be able to ride Old Falls Street's complimentary Train Ride, beginning on Nov. 19 and running each weekend until Dec. 23, on its Middle Block.
  • Visit with Santa Claus inside the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute's life-size gingerbread house and take part in activities such as cookie decorating for children, holiday crafts, letters to Santa, story reading, chef demos and more. Also enjoy live entertainment, face painting and magicians. Available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until December 23.
  • Enjoy the Fatima Shrine this winter and view over 75 beautiful lighted Christmas displays and an illuminated Shrine. Climb to the top of the Basilica for an "angel's view." Warm up inside the gift shop, offering an assortment of religious gift items, or visit the cafeteria for hot chocolate, a quick snack or dinner.
  • Fireworks over Niagara Falls / Illumination: Enjoy a spectacular fireworks display over Niagara Falls every Friday at 9 p.m. until Jan. 27; nightly fireworks begin December 24-30. Best viewing spots include Prospect Point. As always, fireworks performances are weather permitting and may be cancelled due to poor weather conditions like high winds or rain.
  • See the Niagara Power Vista transformed into a winter wonderland with a dazzling display of reusable trees, adorned with energy efficient holiday lights and decorated by local non-profit groups.
  • Join Old St. Nick on the carrousel; just make sure you're on the "nice" list. Enjoy festive crafts and games, hot chocolate and treats, and plenty of opportunity to ride the carrousel.
  • On Sat., December 10, deck the halls at the Power Vista's annual Deck the Halls holiday party, featuring a special guest appearance by Santa Claus. Enjoy photos with Santa, crafts, performances by the Niagara Experience Players and an informational exhibit on energy efficient lights with tips on celebrating a green holiday.
