Artpark Autumn Historic Walking Tour
The Artpark area is steeped in rich history and beauty. In fact, the “Lower Landing” area was designated as a Historic National Landmark in 1998. It was the location of the first European settlement in Western New York. The Historical Association of Lewiston will be sponsoring this historic walking tour led by President Ken Slaugenhoupt. The tour will last 2-3 hours and moderate hiking is involved, so wear sturdy shoes and bring water. The amazing and wide-ranging history of this very special place begins 12,000 years ago and covers the native residents and how three nations — France, England and the United States — fought so desperately to control this original "Gateway to the West." Donations for the Lewiston History Museum and Historical Association of Lewiston will be gratefully accepted.
