"The Niagara USA region is home to an abundance of world class fishing and wildlife so whether you are a local resident or are planning to visit the region in the future, these new sporting license fees and requirements from New York State will provide you with even more value for your dollar," said Bill Hilts, Jr., outdoor sports specialist, NTCC. "In addition, you are also helping to enhance New York State's natural resources as sporting license fees are earmarked for conservation efforts to support fish and wildlife programs throughout the state."
For fishing, an annual license now begins from the date of purchase. An annual resident license has dropped from $29 to $25 and nonresident from $70 to $50. The seven day license has also been reduced from $15 to $12 for residents and from $35 to $28 for nonresidents. While a one day license remains at $5 for residents, nonresident single day tags have dropped from $15 to $10.
The new license year for hunting is now September 1 to August 31, instead of the previous October 1 starting date. Instead of separate small/big game licenses, a single license is available for both for $22. Nonresidents can take advantage of an all-inclusive single hunting license available for $100. For bow hunting and muzzle loading, costs for residents have dropped from $21 to $15, while costs for nonresidents dropped from $140 to $30 each. Turkey permits remain at $10 for residents, but nonresidents will see a reduction from $50 to $20. Deer management permits remain at $10 for everyone, except for junior hunters and lifetime sportsman license holders.
To make obtaining a sporting license easier, a new online system is available. Log on to licensecenter.ny.gov to purchase and print a license. Fishermen can also call toll-free 1-866-933-2257 with their credit card number to obtain a license. A hard copy will then be sent within four days. However, if in need of immediate certification, New York State can issue fishermen a documentation number to show proof of proper license.
