A Few of Our Favorite Things

In case you missed this week’s gift guide on “Niagara Now” on LCTV and still can’t decide what to give this holiday season, be sure to watch it on-demand before checking your list twice.

Lake Effect Artisan Ice Cream specializes in unique (Candy Apple, Frozen Hot Chocolate, Icewine Sherbert - - to name a few), high-quality, handcrafted flavors. Owners Jason Wulf and Erik Bernardi use local, homegrown ingredients in their ice cream, which contains 14-15 percent butterfat and less air (meaning more ice cream). Each micro-batch is produced in small quantities (six quarts) and hand-packed for quality assurance and freshness. Many flavors are gluten-free, kosher, and vegetarian friendly.

Although their charming storefront on the banks of the historic Erie Canal in Lockport, N.Y. is closed for the season, it doesn't mean that ice cream lovers have to go without this holiday season. Visit their online store for a holiday gift pack or gift certificate.

Monumental Maid of the Mist

The Maid of the Mist boats may be at home on the new dry-dock on the shore of the Niagara River for the winter, however spring will be here before we know it and they'll be ready again (for the 169th year) to take passengers to the base of Niagara Falls; and introduce them to a Wonder of the World. Plan to make lifetime memories now by purchasing gift certificates at the main office (151 Buffalo Ave., Ste. 204, Niagara Falls, N.Y. 14303) good towards tickets for next season (cash only accepted). The Maid of the Mist is the most iconic way to experience the power of the Horseshoe Falls, only in the United States.
