Four New Wineries

Twenty-two wineries now shape the Niagara Wine Trail, USA, launching a roster of impressive newcomers.

This year four new wineries opened, spanning the trail into three Western New York counties. All are debuting innovative bottles that would be impossible for any oenophile to ignore. These terrific spots on the Niagara Wine Trail, USA are highlighted with their notable pours and attractions, all of which are now available.

The newcomers

810 Meadworks (
This innovative meadery pours out small-town charm with their craft brews and side of urban sophistication with handmade chocolates; in the heart of historic downtown Medina, N.Y. Owners Bryan & Larissa DeGraw host patrons at their tasting bar (with small bites) and out in "The Beegarten," framed by the brick walls of an old shirt-factory. Perfect for parties, live music and weddings.

To try: Sweet Devotion (13 percent ABV), a semi-sweet and complex, with wildflower honey, black currants, black tea, rose petals and oil of bergamot.

Schwenk Wine Cellars (
From vine to bottle, winemaker Paul Schwenk is creating award-winning wines with the recipes from his great grandfather.

To try:
Baco Noir (Gold/Silver Media Winner) is a dry wine with notes of blackberry and black cherry.
Dry Riesling (Gold and Silver Medal Winner) bright aromas of pear with hints of peach; the palate is balanced and best paired with BBQ pork.

Salamaca Estate Winery (
Entertainment pairs well with wine, don't miss "Wine and Psychic Night" or "Paint Night."

Lake Ontario Winery (
Since 1869 Mayers Cider Mill has been taking Niagara County's top produce (apples) and making cider. There is now a winery attached to the property, and not only is the establishment brewing beer, they are teaching how to make it and wine.
