Niagara Falls in April: April Showers, Niagara Falls USA Style

Considering our love of water, there are plenty of exciting water activities nearby. Whether you’re willing to get wet or want to observe from dry land, there’s plenty of things to do in Niagara Falls in April!

Niagara Falls attracts millions of visitors each year to witness its thunderous, captivating rush of water — a truly unforgettable experience. And since it’s the heart and soul of the region, why not explore Niagara Falls USA through its many exciting water activities? Feel the Falls’ mist on a boat tour, get soaked jetting through Class V rapids or just observe a world-class view of it all from dry land.

Visiting Niagara Falls in April

Start at the Niagara Falls Observation Tower, jutting out over the Niagara Gorge, for a panoramic view of the rushing waters, then take the elevator down to embark on the historic Maid of the Mist for a 30-minute cruise that takes passengers right up to the center of the spray (ponchos provided!). To get even closer to the Falls, book a tour of the Cave of the Winds. Descend 175 feet into the Gorge to find wooden walkways and the Hurricane Deck, giving you a front-and-center view of the Bridal Veil Falls. The rain ponchos also provided here are usually no match for the wind-whipped water spraying off the Falls, so prepare to get wet on this tour, too. While you’re in the area, explore Niagara Falls State Park — the oldest in the country and spanning more than 400 acres — by trolley, bike or on foot. Several trails cater to everyone from beginners to seasoned hikers. Stroll around Goat Island and don’t miss Terrapin Point for an incredible (and dry - but sometimes misty) view of Horseshoe Falls.

Still looking for a wild and wet adventure? A jet boat tour is a must for any thrill seeker. Both Niagara Jet Adventures and Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours zip passengers on a 45- to 60-minute ride down the Niagara River, including through the Devil’s Hole Class V white-water rapids. For another adrenaline-pumping outing, speed across the Erie Canal basin gorge on the Niagara Zipper in downtown Lockport. The zip line takes you over the historic Erie Canal, hovering at 85 feet in the air at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. While you’re in Lockport, check out Rivi-Erie, the man-made urban beach on the banks of the Erie Canal where you can pull up a beach chair and build sand castles with a view of passing boats. Also nearby is Lake Effect Artisan Ice Cream, with homemade scoops in quirky-yet-delicious flavors.

For an aquatic adventure that doesn’t require getting soaked, visit the Aquarium of Niagara. See the sea lion show, penguin and shark feedings, and more than 200 species of sea animals in more than 40 exhibits. Feel a sea star or crab shell in the touch tank, or book a behind-the-scenes tour of the Aquarium, with an inside look at marine mammal staff and animal trainers. Settle in to the Niagara Adventure Theater to watch Niagara: Legends of Adventure. The 30-minute film charts the history of the region, from the Native Americans to French explorers and English colonists to present day, on a massive 45-foot screen. For a little more natural and geological history, head to the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center for interactive exhibits, and take note of the majestic view outside.

A short drive south, find the small and quiet Griffon Park for fishing or a guided kayak tour with Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper
