CAM Meets: Women Who Shaped the Arts
Mar 11
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Overview
Women Who Shaped the Arts is a special Women's History Month program featuring a distinguished art historian and an accomplished local artist who provide diverse perspectives on women's enduring impact on the visual arts. Through richly illustrated presentations, intimate dialogue, and thoughtful discussion, participants will discover how women artists have navigated societal barriers, developed innovative techniques, challenged artistic conventions, and transformed the cultural landscape across centuries and mediums.
The program examines both celebrated masters and lesser-known pioneers, connecting historical struggles and triumphs to contemporary creative practices while exploring themes of artistic legacy, institutional representation, gender and identity, mentorship networks, material experimentation, and the evolving role of women in shaping visual culture. Attendees will gain insight into how women artists have claimed space within and beyond traditional art world structures, forged new pathways for expression, and continue to redefine what art can be and who gets to make it.
