National Media to “Take a Bite” out of Niagara USA

Niagara Falls, NY - Visiting national media from across the country and Canada will be invited to sample Niagara County's culinary delights this weekend, the result of a new annual initiative developed by the Niagara Tourism & Convention Corporation (NTCC). Seasonal "Up Close and Savory" familiarization (FAM) tours will be offered throughout the year, highlighting local eats paired with provisions from the Niagara Wine Trail USA.

"Up Close and Savory: Take a bite out of history in Niagara USA" will highlight Niagara County attractions, eateries and local personalities that make Niagara County so unique.

From August 15 - 17, 2014, more than 10 top food and wine writers will embark on Niagara County to taste all Niagara USA has to offer. They will experience the authentic Niagara USA feeling while riding the Maid of the Mist, the only way to fully appreciate one of the world's most awe-inspiring Wonders of the World. In addition, the writers will spend Saturday afternoon at the Lockport Cave & Underground Boat Ride, cruise the locks on Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises, place a lock on the "Big Bridge" and enjoy lunch at Sweet Ride Rentals. The day will culminate with a trip back in time to Old Fort Niagara in which visitors will experience Niagara's finest locally produced delicacies with a pig roast dinner alfresco at sunset, complete with historic components.

"Our objective with this tour is to provide an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to these influential journalists and allow them to spread the word about our extraordinary county and its attractions," said John Percy, NTCC president and CEO. "Niagara is not just about Niagara Falls - our agriculture is a natural wonder waiting to be re-discovered."

Local media are invited to attend fireworks at the Cave of the Winds at 8 pm on Friday, Aug. 15, at Goat Island in Niagara Falls State Park, or dinner at Old Fort Niagara at 5 pm on Saturday, Aug. 16.
