LOCKPORT, NY - From a romantic trip to one of the nation's fastest growing wine regions, to an educational tour of underground caves or a closer look at one of our nation's historic manmade marvel, a trip to Niagara USA's Canal Region, and has something for visitors of all ages.

In Niagara Falls USA, visitors will travel back in time to the early 1800's, when our state embarked on a canal building journey in hopes of linking commercial entities in the Great Lakes to those along the east coast. The story of that journey is told each day in Niagara Falls USA's Canal Region.

Lockport Locks and Erie Canal cruises ferries visitors along the canal where they are able to experience the only double set of locks on the Erie Canal, as well as receiving a unique perspective of the historic "Flight of Five" locks, which were constructed to bridge a 59-foot elevation increase found along the Niagara Escarpment. Along the length of the historic 360-mile artery, 36 locks allow boats to traverse more than a 360-foot elevation increase.

In Niagara Falls USA, builders constructed several locks, which not only provided the City of Lockport with its name, but created a blueprint for canal building throughout the world. Visit the Erie Canal Discovery Center, which offers a multi-media look into the era of canal construction and the commercial significance of being able to transport goods from the Atlantic Ocean into Lake Erie.

Visitors of all ages will enjoy a historical guided walking and boat tour of the Lockport Caves, which were created both for industrial and construction related purposes associated with the early days of the Erie Canal. Here, century's old artifacts, as well as unique cave formations and other geological wonders can be found on the 70-minute expedition.

The New York State Erie Canal Museum at locks 34 and 35 offers a nostalgic black and white photo collection of canal construction. Also, a series of popular free concerts in North Tonawanda and Lockport during the summer months fills the Canal Region with the sound of music. Acclaimed artists such as the B-52's, Grand Funk Railroad and the John Butler Trio will take the stage.

Visitors can also take a romantic stroll along the Erie Canal Towpath in the City of Lockport stopping to browse shops, art galleries or eat in one of the city's fine restaurants along the way.  The Kenan Center is a hidden treasure and historical gem also located in the heart of the Lockport Community you wouldn't want to miss.  The center houses a year-round gallery displaying the works of local, regional and national artists in the elegant Kenan House, a stunning example of late 19th century Italianate architecture.

Don't let the romance stop there; just a short drive from Lockport is the Niagara Wine Trail, which is one of the nation's fastest growing wine regions, now incorporating 16 unique wineries producing award-winning products. The fertile soil and adequate rainfall of the Niagara Falls USA region contribute to the excellent growing conditions on the vineyards.
