Niagara Falls USA and the surrounding region offers some of the best hiking trails. With various difficulty levels, hiking can be easy, affordable and fun for the entire family. A trek through the wilderness is a great way to experience Niagara Falls in winter.
If you’re seeking a guided hike, or want to learn more about the great outdoors, partake in one (or all) of the Niagara Region Interpretive Programs Office activities offered this winter. All pre-scheduled programs are free and intended for individuals and families. Register for one (or more!) of the following hikes here. For more information, call 716-282-5154.
December 6: Watercolor Holiday Cards

10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Join us in the Education Center to create your own holiday themed card using watercolor paints! All materials provided.
December 6: Jingle Falls

12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Take a break from the cold and visit the Welcome Center for family holiday crafts and an Education Station!
December 6: Jingle Falls Stroll

2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Join us on a casual stroll to Stedman's Bluff on Goat Island to view the American and Bridal View Falls as a part of the Jingle Falls festivities.

12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Take a break from the cold and visit the Welcome Center for family holiday crafts and an Education Station!
December 12: Niagara Falls Wreath Making

10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Create your very own Niagara Falls-inspired wreath perfect for the winter season. Materials and wreath frames will be provided. You are more than welcome to bring your own decorations and craft supplies.
December 13: Starting a Nature Journal
Reservoir State Park, 5777 Witmer Road, Niagara Falls
11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Learn how to start your very own nature journal! This workshop will help you gain knowledge on the importance of nature journals and how to use John Muir Law prompts as starting points! All materials included.
December 13: Glaciers and Ice Bridges

2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Come warm up inside the education center and learn about the power of ice!
December 18: Arts and Crafts Night
Niagara Falls State Park, 332 Prospect St., Niagara Falls
6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Come to Niagara Falls State Park for a fun night of arts and crafts indoors. Visitors will be able to use our eco-friendly paints to create nature inspired artwork to take home.
December 19: Lug Your Mug in a Winter Wonderland
Niagara Falls State Park, 332 Prospect St., Niagara Falls
5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Take a breather from the holiday season with a park educator for a relaxed walk around Niagara Falls with a warm drink and beautiful sights. Please bring your own thermos!
December 20: Snowshoeing
DeVeaux Woods State Park, 3120 De Veaux Woods Drive, Niagara Falls
9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Learn how to snowshoe with a park naturalist and take a guided walk through DeVeaux Woods. Snowshoes will be provided! (If there is not enough snow, this will turn into a winter hike.)
December 20: Falala Falls

12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Take a break from the cold and visit the Welcome Center for family fun holiday crafts and an Education Station!
December 21: Waterfowl Craft and Explore
Wilson-Tuscarora State Park, 3371 Lake Road, Wilson
10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Winter waterfowl are here! Come join us and spot birds on Lake Ontario, and make a Waterfowl craft in the community room.
December 21: Woofs and Waterfalls
Niagara Falls State Park, 332 Prospect St., Niagara Falls
2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Enjoy a leisurely walk with your dog and a Park Naturalist around Goat Island. It is not necessary to have a dog to participate, however, all dogs in attendance must be up to date on immunizations, leashed, and under control.
December 27: Last Saturday of the Year Hike
Whirlpool State Park, Niagara Scenic Parkway, Niagara Falls
10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Join a Park Naturalist for a casual guided walk to celebrate the last weekend of 2025 and welcome in the new year!
December 31: DeVeaux — The Sleeping Forest
DeVeaux Woods State Park, 3120 De Veaux Woods Drive, Niagara Falls
11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Take a winter walk through the old-growth forest at DeVeaux. Explore how trees, birds, and other animals survive the winter months.
