Take a Solo Trip to Niagara Falls
Peaceful nature walks. Afternoons in the museum. Relaxing spa time. Make your great escape to Niagara Falls USA for some quality “me” time.
With so much to do in Niagara Falls USA, there’s no reason to wait for a travel buddy to visit. You can hit the trails to hike, unwind with a massage and a glass of wine or take a scenic drive — and that’s just one day! We’ve got all the activities a solo traveler would enjoy in Niagara Falls and the surrounding areas.
Breakfast and a Run to the Falls
Start your day with a cup of coffee and delicious baked goods for fueling up at Amy & Co. Cafe, a local favorite. Then, get all your senses engaged with a leisurely stroll through Niagara Falls State Park! After some gazing and picture taking, continue walking along the Niagara Gorge Trail System. The Gorge itself offers multiple hiking trails of varying difficulty levels, including the moderate-to-advanced Devil’s Hole Trail which puts you up close to the rapids of the Niagara River.
Lunch, History and a Coffee Break
After a morning of exploring, take a scenic 20-minute drive north to Youngstown, a quaint waterfront village along the Niagara River. Stop for lunch at Youngstown Marketside, a cozy local spot serving up fresh sandwiches, homemade soups, and daily specials — perfect fuel for an afternoon of solo exploring. Just around the corner, step back in time at Old Fort Niagara, where 17th-century stone walls overlook the dramatic meeting point of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. As you tour the fort, you’ll uncover its pivotal role in the Revolutionary and Civil wars, all while taking in some seriously stunning views. On your way back, swing through Lewiston to wander Artpark, a creative green space dotted with large-scale art installations. (Bonus: It hosts concerts and festivals in the warmer months.) Then grab a cozy cup of coffee from Orange Cat Coffee Co. before heading back into town.
Wind Down to Wine Time
Nothing says vacation like a trip to the spa! The Spa at Niagara Crossing offers everything from traditional massage to hot stone massage, customized facials and even a chamomile marine algae body wrap. Once you are totally blissed out from your spa time, the last thing to do is have a fabulous glass of wine from one of the local wineries on the Niagara Wine Trail, USA. Wine on Third is an upscale restaurant and bar with over 80 varieties of wine available, including a wide local selection (the regional specialties include Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir). If you are more of a beer drinker, head to Live Edge Brewing Company. The brewery is located off the beautiful shores of Lake Ontario and offers unique craft beers and a creative menu — think: Korean burgers, curried cauliflower tacos and tots with truffle aioli.
Venturing Beyond the Falls
Other don’t-miss activities (including the Falls themselves, of course!) include the impressive art collection at the Castellani Art Museum at Niagara University. As Niagara County’s only collecting art museum, the Castellani has an impressive collection of 5,500 pieces and houses iconic artists like Picasso, Dali, Warhol and others. You can also clear your head on a scenic drive along the Niagara Scenic Parkway to 18F to Olcott, or head east past Lockport into a beautiful area of orchards and wineries. Stop for a farm-fresh snack and a bottle of wine at Becker Farms, which is also home to Vizcarra Vineyards and Becker Brewing.
No matter what your interests are, there’s so much to see and do for the solo traveler in Niagara Falls USA!
