The Best of Niagara Falls in May
With seasonal attractions and restaurants opening for the season, May marks the unofficial start of summer in Niagara County. Here are the can't-miss festivals and things to do this month.
Native Nations at Niagara
May 11, 2024. Old Fort Niagara's annual Smoke Dance competition, Native Nations at Niagara welcomes local and nationwide competitors to dance throughout the day. Watch as dancers compete for prizes, learn about traditional and historic Native regalia, and talk to the Fort’s interpretive staff about the connection that Fort Niagara has to the Haudenosaunee and other Native communities during the Fort’s almost 300-year history.
Newfane Apple Blossom Festival
May 19, 2024. Now in its 46th year, the Newfane Apple Blossom Festival celebrates the spring planting season with live music and entertainment, local food and craft vendors, and hands-on activities for kids. Explore the Newfane Historical Society's Country Village exhibits and demonstrations, too!
Lewiston Smelt Festival
May 24, 2024. One of Lewiston's most abundant natural resources is celebrated at this annual event: Smelt Fest! At this festival, smelt, a type of small fish, are deep fried, resembling "fries with eyes." Even if you don't like fish, there's plenty of other food, drinks and live music to enjoy at the Griffon Brewery and Gastropub, plus stunning views of the scenic Niagara River.
Memorial Day Weekend Street Festival
May 24-27, 2024. Kick off the start of summer at Old Falls Street's Memorial Day Weekend Festival! From Friday through Monday, play backyard board games, enjoy food trucks and vendors, and listen to live music from 10 local bands and musicians.
